WriteArt! Exercises: Forgiveness

"Forgiveness is the act of admitting we are like other people."
-- Ann Hood

1. What reasons can you think of that would cause your character to forgive someone? Below is a list of acts. Come up with a reason for each of them. Don't repeat your reasons.
Infidelity
A slap across the face
Read someone else's mail
Taking money from the wallet you do/not know
Wrecking someone's car while under the influence
Arson
Accidentally killing someone
Murder

2. Take one of your characters to work with, or create a new one for this exercise. What is unforgiveable to them? What could they never forgive? What would push them toward forgiveness? Would they actually go all the way and forgive the offense?

3. What words or images can you come up with as metaphors for forgiveness? Choose two and write a paragraph using them in which the reader understands forgiveness. Do not use the words "fogive" or "sorry."
