WriteArt! Exercises: Hostility

"A loving person lives in a loving world. A hostile person lives in a hostile world. Everyone you meet is your mirror."
-- Ken Keys

1. Practice using physical descriptions to illustrate hostility. First describe just a hostile face. Then describe hostile hands. Finally, hostile eyes.

2. Choose three of the following hostile words, then add seven of your own (they, too, should evoke hostility). Write a one page scene that uses all ten.
Scar
Insulted
Narrowed suddenly
Sparked humbling reprimands
Puckered her lips
Blew a healthy stream of smoke toward my face
A mean action
Deliberately irreverent
Cold
Darkened

3. Write a one page scene of hostile dialogue. Choose one of the following as the source of hostility. If none of them suit you, devise your own.
A fur coat
A tattoo
Lost car keys
A bright pink blouse
A smelly dog
Bad breath
