WriteArt! Exercises: Revenge

At one time or another, we've all said "you're going to pay for that!" or something along those lines. How many times does the threat become realized? What would push you or your character to actually go out and seek revenge?

"Something of vengence I had tasted for the first time; as an aromatic wine it seemed, on swallowing, warm and racy; its afterflavour, metallic and corroding, gave me a sensation as if I had been poisoned."
-- Charlotte Bronte

1. Describe your most delightful revenge story/fantasy. Why do you want revenge? Who is the person? What horribly wicked things would you like to do? Use strong details and be specific.

2. Write a scene in which a character acts out one of your vengeful fantasies. If you did no. 1, use that one. Write in the third person. How does the character feel after vengence has been exacted? How has the character changed?

3. Write a paragraph that describes what happens to your character from no. 2 (or create a new character for this exercise). Go from just after the act of revenge has been committed. What are the results of the action, both for the character and for those around him/her?
